LACUNA COIL's ANDREA FERRO Talks About P.O.D. Tour, Upcoming Album
June 2, 2004The male half of LACUNA COIL's dual lead vocals, Andrea Ferro, recently spoke to Chicago Innerview about the group's current tour with P.O.D.
"We are getting along very well with the guys in P.O.D. and the other bands," he said. "And we're getting quite a good reaction, especially since we are the most diverse band of the package. We're more metal compared to [P.O.D. and additional touring mates BLINDSIDE and HAZEN STREET]. The only thing maybe we just expected a bit more people on this tour. It's doing good, but we expected more because of the names of the bands. But basically, we're doing this tour to promote the band in front of a different crowd."
With regards to LACUNA COIL's upcoming appearance at this year's Ozzfest, Ferro said, "It's going to be a mess, technically-wise, because there will be no sound check everyday, and we'll be on a rotating slot. But it's already a miracle for us — appearing [on the bill]. It's a big surprise because [for] a band from Italy, it's not very common. Actually, I think we are the first one to do something like that, at least in rock.
"Basically, what we need the people to know is that we are an honest band that's been around since '96-'97, we're not like a 'new' band. We're new on the American market, of course, but we're not somebody who's just starting out. So we need to prove that there is a reason why in Europe we have a certain success and we've been doing this for many years now."
As they continue to play what they like while converting music fans along the way, one idea they've encountered to breathe some fresh air to the now-dated material is to simply unplug.
"It's a new dimension for us because we never tried it before the promotion for the album. They said 'why don't you try some acoustic stuff?', so we said 'okay, let's try"," Ferro explained to Chicago Innerview. "And then it turned out pretty well and now we've done it so many times that we are learning how to play the acoustic way; we never did that before. So it's pretty fresh. Maybe on the new album there will even be an acoustic song too because we are very inspired now."
"We have a little studio with us, [it's like] a laptop with a couple of speakers, to collect ideas. We have a lot of music, like for nine songs or 10, but no vocals yet. As soon as we're done with Ozzfest, we are going to start working on [the next album].
"We always like to let the music give us the inspiration for the words. It's very nice when you try to sing something without any idea behind it. We like to find the lyrics in the music, sometimes we think of them before, of course, but sometimes they just come very naturally. It's something, I don't want to say magical, but…"
